How to plan your life as a Christians

You can successfully plan your life as a Christian. Anyone who succeeds or fails is based on decisions that he/she makes consciously or subconsciously. Success or failure is not accidental.

Proverbs 24:3-4: By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.  The main point of this verse is relevant to life —   your life isn’t haphazard – to navigate through this life — needs wisdom.

How to plan your life as a Christian

  1. Knowing Gods plan — What he wants to happen in your life
  2. Knowing your part — what you need to do to align with Gods plan — It is not all up to God. The bible is full of instructions that tell us how to align with Gods plan
  3. Understanding Timing

The life of Abraham is a classic example of the importance of these 3 factors. Abraham made mistakes at the early stage of his life when he didn’t submit to God’s plan. However he was able to receive God’s plans after he submitted to God’s plan.

  • At 77 God appeared to Abraham and told him that God would give him a son – and he would be the father of many descendants.
  • Abraham tried to make this happen by his own ability and this caused Abraham unnecessary delays and he had a son —outside Gods will.
  • Isaac, the son God promised Abraham only came after Abraham submitted to Gods plan.

Steps to planning your life as a Christian?

  1. First — take stock of your life and areas that need to change. Assess areas where you were fruitful and areas where changes are needed

    a. Celebrate all the successes – give God thanks
    b. Examine areas for improvement – ask the Lord for clarity –
    c. Take ownership for areas for change

  2. Ask God for the goals he has for you – 2 Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV – Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
  3. After getting Gods plan(s), do the following-
    • Understand Gods part – don’t try to move doors – Depend on God
    • Understand your part
    • Understand where you need to seek help from others — (the bible is full of verses that caution you to get wise counsel before taking key steps)

Bible Verses to help you plan as a Christian

  • Proverbs 21:5 – The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
  • Proverbs 15:22 ESV – Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers there is safety – (This verse cautions you to seek counsel)
  • Proverbs 6:6-8 ESV – Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. – (This verse cautions you to be diligent)
  • Luke 14:28 ESV – For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

Don’t make assumptions about life

  • Be clear — anything that isn’t clear will waste time and resources.
  • Be realistic and honest with where you are. You can only properly prepare for the future by taking stock of where you are. This will help you accept changes needed, corrections your need, where help is needed to move ahead, etc.
  • Be specific with an action plan.
