Importance of Vision – Mission – Purpose

The Importance of Vision, Mission, and Purpose

If you will have a meaningful and productive life you must know your Vision, Mission, and Purpose. Without these three factors defined in your life, you will live aimlessly without any direction. No one would embark on a journey without any destination in mind—if he or she did, that journey would be a waste of time. Just the same way life without vision, mission, and purpose leads nowhere.

Proverbs 29:18 – Amplified Bible – 18 Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God].

  1. What are Vision, Mission and Purpose?
  2. Vision – The ability to see — the reason you were created–  Where your life is headed. Its about direction – the end result
  3. Mission – How your vision is fulfilled – what you must do to accomplish your purpose
  4. Purpose – The reason for doing the things you do — Purpose – keeps you anchored in your you are hoping to achieve –
  • Why are Vision, Mission and Purpose important?
    • Everyone wants fulfilment — it can only be attained when you discover and fulfil the reason for which you were created

Here is an example to consider:

  • Now what if your vision is clear and you know that the vision for your life is to stop child trafficking in a particular country
  • Your mission will now focus on what to do to accomplish that vision
  • Your purpose –the reason for the goal – will keep you focused on the assignment

One good example of someone who stayed true to his assignment was Nelson Mandala – He was a voice that God raised up to stand against apartheid (racial injustice) –   Even after being jailed for over 27 years – he didn’t back down.

  • How to you discover the vision, mission, and purpose for your life?
    • FIRST– You must be fully persuaded that God created you for a reason. If you don’t really believe God has a plan for your life – you won’t be diligent to discover his plan

Psalm 139:13-18 – New Living Translation

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

17 How precious are your thoughts about me,[b] O God. They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up,
    you are still with me!

  • SECOND – Ask God for his plan – God will not force his plans on you.

Everyone God called in the bible — they had to respond to God – an Example –  is Moses

  1. God appears to Moses using a burning bush (Exod. 3:2-5).
  2. Moses was intrigued by the nature of this fire.
  3. When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!”
  4. Moses heard his name called and responded, “Here I am” (Exod. 3:4).
  5. After Moses responds – God then spoke to Moses and gave him his vision
  6. God speaks to Moses about his purpose and assignment –

Third, God commissioned Moses to go to Pharaoh to bring God’s people out of Egypt (Exod. 3:10) — 10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

In conclusion —

You must know that God primarily works with people based on purpose – that God wants to accomplish through people— however – still too many people only think to God to God –when they have a need or when they run into trouble. if you don’t understand this you won’t understand how to work with God

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
